Volunteer Northwest Mississippi is the first volunteer center for the
northwest region, established in 2006 through the Mississippi Commission for
Volunteer Service and the Points of Light Foundation. It is housed in the
office of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi and covers a 22
county area operating through 1800volunteer.org. Individuals, groups,
businesses and churches can sign on as volunteers, and non-profits sign on
and list their opportunities. This is the perfect way to match volunteers
with opportunities to volunteer.
Since its establishment the volunteer center has registered 83 volunteers
through 1800volunteer.org and 35 non-profits. VNM has advertised 100
opportunities for volunteers . Volunteer Northwest Mississippi also
publishes a bi-weekly newsletter. In addition, VNM is a call center in
conjunction with Emergency Management, Red Cross, and the Department of
Human Services to be a call center for disasters.
