GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY 2009

Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, organized by Youth Service America, with the Global Youth Action Network as its key partner and a consortium of international organizations and over 120 national coordinating committees in participating countries.  GYSD is an annual global event that highlights and celebrates the contributions of youth to their communities through volunteer service.

Volunteer Northwest Mississippi will once again serve as a lead agency for Global Youth Service Day (GYSD).  This year's project includes a Can Food Drive competition beginning April 1-17 and a Canned Structure competition.  This fun, community service project is a great way to involve youth in service-learning.  All canned food items will be donated to selected pantries in DeSoto county. All high schools in DeSoto county are invited and encouraged to join this day of service.   Congratulations to the following high schools for signing up to participate in this community service event:

    Center Hill High School

Lewisburg High School

Horn Lake High School

Southaven High School
